I’ve come up with a schedule for my lunch during the week.
Sad? Me?
You’ll have to ask nicely if you want to see it.
Today has been good mainly because I booked my place for the issue 4 Blizzard Q&A at Wembley. I can’t tell you how excited I am.
I have had a brilliant weekend, if I must say so myself. I’ve done myself proud.
The photos above are of the extortionate salad and meat I bought for my tea on Saturday from Ottolenghi. It was absolutely lovely, just not somewhere I’ll be going back often. I do want to try and get to Nopi sometime soon though. If you can guess how much I spent, I’ll treat you.
I also ate at Pieminister on Sunday, it was as good as ever, I had a matador, sausage roll, mash, peas and gravy. A right treat to start the day.
This weekend I also saw the Muppets: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CjiK288Rc0
The Picasso exhibition at tate Britain on Saturday Morning, and, to round the weekend off, the Celtic game, which finished 5-0 to us.
I couldn’t have planned better.
I’m looking forward to next weekend already.
WORK WORK WORK
As always, I’ve been in work. The weather has made it a bit unbearable at times, but only because it’s been too cold.
I’ve mainly been doing setting out and surveying, with some rebar and concrete checks thrown in.
It had me thinking though, we get asked a lot, ‘where we see ourselves in x-amount of years’, a lot of people say package managers / project managers etc etc. Whereas I just see myself as being someone who is good at what he does and is relied on. I just want to be an engineer. I don’t think there’s enough emphasis being put on the stuff that makes us who we are, the technical and practical skills and knowledge that allow us to see errors before they happen or to find and rectify errors.
This is all quite old fashioned on my part, I do understand that the industry has changed and moved on, but this is still an integral part in my view. I understand that we have to be capable of doing the paperwork and ‘business’ side of things. But I think there’s far too much effort put into emails that just attempt to score points.
That’s enough of this anyway. I’ll get back to you later.
What happened on the weekend:
1) My friend’s girlfriend tried to set me up with her friend who has a ‘lovely personality’ who is ‘bubbly’. Luckily for me, I don’t live round there any more.
2) We had a discussion about getting to design your own vagina with my pre-op transexual friend. It turns out you get no input into it at all, and it’s all at the doctors discretion.
3) I finished Potsdam Station, it was as good as the rest if not better.
4) I learnt I’m quite modest about where / what I do.
I…
…have had a good weekend. I’ll tell you about it tomorrow. It’s bed time now I think.
To the Future
I made my first pension payment today.
Pension. Payment. I’m 24.
No time like the present I suppose. Being realistic, it’s only a good thing, and it allows me to budget for when I’m not capable of spunking my money away on stuff.
When I told my brother he replied: “Only another 44 years to go”
He’s not wrong.
Woe is me.
Another day, but same old same old.
The day that was:
Work wise, today wasn’t too bad.
It was mainly surveying I was up to.
We had one of the head guys down to double check what I had done because it wasn’t making any sense. I was confident in what I had done, but it’s always nice to have a second opinion. It turns out what I had done, was correct, or as correct as it could be, so that was pleasing.
It was an interesting day for me, it’s always good to get shown stuff, explained stuff etc.
—————————————-
The only issues that came out of today were:
- What had the other lot done?
- If I had been left to carry on what I was doing in November it wouldn’t be an issue now, but no, that’d be proactive and actually involve doing something.

I’ll stop moaning now, I’ll keep you informed.
